rusty

rusty

kelpie - female

Hi, my name is Rusty and I am 6 years old. I don’t recall the first 2 years of my life however I was rescued from the pound by a lovely elderly gentleman and spent 4 great years with him. Sadly due to his aging he has caringly decided to surrender me to DCH knowing that my new foster carer Rod would find me a perfect new loving home.
I am a very pretty, smart active girl with a cheeky infectious smile. I am gentle with children and am not aggressive, walk well on the lead. I would suit an active young family or individual with time to share with me as I love human company. My daily walks and leash free runs are part of my kelpie nature and I love them. I am slowly learning to be in the company of other dogs and feel more comfortable around male dogs at this time however have no doubt that I will improve the more I am socialised. Tummy rubs are my favourite and please pat me all you like  I sleep inside or outside in a kennel under shelter. I like to be inside especially during the winter months. I am toilet trained.
I believe Rusty is an absolute dream to look after. Being cheeky at times adds to her playful character. I have noticed she can be a bit fussy with food, though together we are working to improve that. She has become an amazing companion and is not at all an attention barker. She has come from a loving family and we would like her forever home to be just as special.

Laila

Laila

Staffy X - female

Laila, was taken in at around 6 weeks old. She is a little shy in the beginning but once she knows she can trust you she is a bubble of energy.

Loves to play and does not like being alone. She loves attention and if you do not give her attention she will beg for it.

She is still very young and learning from right and wrong at the age of 8 weeks training is important as she does like to bite a bit when playing.

We have been using training pads , works most times except of course she poops of the training pads, she will need the ongoing training.

She will already bring the ball to you which is great and will wait excitingly for you to throw it.

She is adorable, she doesn't mind other animals, such as rabbits and cats. She is a little rough with them though, She just wants to play and she doesn't realise how rough she is being.

Shes a little scared of our big dog but she stil plays she just knows she cant play rough with him.

Feel free to ask any questions.

If you are interested, drop by and meet Laila and see if shes a perfect match for you and your family.

Laila will be ready for adoption from 8 weeks so in a week or 2 ( roughly by the 18th July)

Charlie

Charlie

Maltese Cross - male

Charlie has been in foster care for a few months now and is a very different dog than when he first arrived.

Video of Charlie 12/01/2017

https://youtu.be/o3qT8I7wD0I

Charlie is now a happier and friendlier but it does take a while for him to adjust to new people. He seems to be more relaxed around younger adults and seems to have a complex about older adults which could have something to do with this past. Charlie is protective of his yard and owners and will bark at people visiting.

Charlie is an outside dog and still needs further obedience training.

He will sit with coaching for food treats. He works very well on a lead and really enjoys his walks around the neighbourhood.

He is happy to be around familiar people and looks for attention. He does not mind driving in the car. He is probably best suited in a home without young children and he would prefer younger to middle aged adults for company.

Charlie is possessive of his food but he has started to relax a little more about sharing.

Charlie has bonded well with the foster carer’s Beagle and they get along well together but they can play a little rough from time to time. He would be best suited in a home without other dogs although he has shown he can adjust to another dog in the yard however he just needed time and patience. He will be best suited to a home whom is prepared to give him plenty of time and attention.

He has been microchipped, vaccinated, wormed and flea treated. He is confirmed by the vet as having been previously desexed.

He is currently in foster care in Quakers Hill

Charlie was adopted on 11 July 2017 after 8 months in foster care

Buddy

Buddy

GSD x husky - male

This young man will make a wonderful addition to any home that can cater to a larger dog. He's approx 30kg and looks like he might have some filling out to do. While he's probably got a few different breeds in him, his temprament is similar to a german shephard.

Buddy is a really lovely young dog, he does enjoy playing and will need regular exercise but he's not over the top and is quite placid much of the time. Buddy can sit, drop and shake hands and he's eager and keen to learn more!

He's house trained and currently sleeps at the foot of his carers bed. He's a good traveller in the car and is really just a delight to have around.

With is very goofy ears he's quite the character and if you have a loving home where he can be part of the family then please contact us.

Mara

Mara

American Staffy cross - female

Have you ever wanted a second shadow, one shaped like a dog? Well meet Mara, aka Dingus Khan.

What a complete sweetheart! This big darling girl is a total sook, and her natural position is on her back so you can scratch her belly. She wants to follow you all over the house and keep you in sight.

She is non-reactive with our other dog, who is an old girl and not much interested in her either. She does growl when Mara gets close and Mara backs away. UPDATE: These two are now buddies and there is no issue at all. However, she does react to dogs whilst out walking, and has lunged at a couple. She is nervous while out walking (but getting better), and it can possibly be attributed partly to that. She has a harness and doesn't pull much, generally happy to walk alongside you.

She is still a pup and doesn't really know her size. She has not really been trained, so loves to jump on you. We are working on this behaviour at the moment. She seems willing to learn, and is picking up commands quickly. I suspect she will require a firm hand with any new owner. UPDATE: She is now not jumping so much. She is learning to drop and roll over. She loves her treats! But takes them gently, no snatching at all. She waits patiently when her food is down to be told she can eat.

On being left alone... Well, she's not a fan. She loves being with her people. She will need a well fenced yard for when you are not home, but would definitely prefer someone that is home more often than not. She hasn't seemed very interested in toys or balls at this stage. She will look at you and then drop onto her back for a belly scratch.

Mara is one of the sweetest-natured dogs I have met. So eager and willing to please, and just wants to be loved. She wants you to be her boss and tell her what is expected of her, and will require a firm hand until she learns her place. I think she would be best suited to a retiree(s) who are looking for their extra shadow, and who will be around her a lot. She may also make an excellent family dog, and although she is untested with children at this stage, she loves people, and she was content to let me dress her up in a shark costume and could probably handle whatever kids could throw at her.

Come meet her, and fall in love!
